Questions

Straight answers, no runaround.

Composite or cedar for a Calgary deck?
Composite costs more upfront but survives our freeze-thaw cycles with no staining and no splinters. Cedar is warmer underfoot and cheaper, but plan on re-oiling every second year.
Do decks need a permit in Calgary?
Generally yes once the deck is over 0.6 m above grade or attached to the house. We confirm the requirement and handle the application and inspections.
How deep do the footings go?
Below frost line, typically 4 ft in the Calgary area, using helical piles or concrete piers so the deck doesn't heave in spring.
Can you rebuild just the surface of my old deck?
If the structure and footings pass inspection, yes: new decking, fasteners and railing on the existing frame is a big saving. We'll tell you honestly if the frame isn't worth keeping.
How long does a deck build take?
One to two weeks for most residential decks after footings are in and inspected. Glass railing lead times can add a week or two.
Do you build fences and privacy screens too?
Yes, fence replacement, gates, privacy screens and pergolas, usually quoted alongside the deck so the whole yard is finished in one visit.

Our roof was hail-damaged and Coast View handled the whole insurance claim. Tear-off and new shingles done in two days, yard cleaner than when they arrived.

Dana R.Tuscany, Calgary · Roof replacement

They developed our basement top to bottom, framing, the stone fireplace wall, bathroom, flooring. Same two guys every day and the quote never moved.

Mark & Steph L.Cranston, Calgary · Basement development

Stucco on the south wall was cracked and patched badly by a previous contractor. Coast View re-coated it and added brick to the base. Looks like a new house.
